Nicholson painted many table top pictures in the 1920's and Cineraria & Cyclamen 1927 is typical of the style. If she liked an arrangement of flowers and pots she would paint several variations.
My version of her work definitely follows this idea, not necessarily capturing every stem or bloom faithfully but honouring its's essence, movement and light.
The piece is created using a combination of hand and machine stitches to create different textures and marks. The words are written with the sewing machine free hand. It sits on a pieced background of linen and vintage fabrics.
The card is 5x7 inches (13 x 18 cm).
